Big Ideas Learning is proud to acknowledge and congratulate co-author Laurie Boswell, Ed.D., on her 2026 National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Lifetime Achievement Award. Each year, the Mathematics Education Trust presents the award to NCTM members whose achievements reflect leadership, teaching, and service to mathematics education. Laurie will be recognized at the 2026 NCTM Annual Meeting & Exposition in Denver, Oct. 28 to 31.
Laurie's career in mathematics education stretches across more than five decades, beginning in the classroom, where she spent 25 years teaching at Profile Junior and Senior High School before becoming Head of School at Riverside School in Lyndonville, Vermont. In 1986, she received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics Teaching. As part of her involvement with NCTM, Laurie served on both the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee, worked on the Standards Commission, and was Chair of the Mathematics Education Trust Board of Trustees from 2022 through 2023.
Since 1992, Laurie has co-authored dozens of titles in partnership with Ron Larson, including our current Math & YOU K-12 program. Teachers frequently look to Laurie's Notes in the Teaching Edition for practical support in anticipating how students may respond, supporting strategies to meet a range of learning needs, and making student thinking visible.

Laurie’s exceptional strength as a teacher, administrator, and math curriculum leader is foundational to her significant authorship role and legacy with Big Ideas Learning.
